THE RULES:

1—All pokemon must be nicknamed.

2—I must attempt to catch the first pokemon I see in any route or area. I may catch no others in that area.

3—If a pokemon faints, it is considered “dead” and may no longer be used. I will release them from the next PC.

4—Legendaries cannot be caught or used.

5—The Pokewalker cannot be used.

6—If the first encounter is a duplicate of a pokemon I already have, I may ignore it and re-try for a new one. After three re-tries, however, I must catch the fourth one even if it is a dupe.

7—Gift pokemon, such as Bill’s Eevee or the Tyrogue from the Karate King, can be accepted and used and do not count under the “first encounter” rule. Forced encounters, such as Sudowoodo and the Red Gyarados, however, do count under the “first encounter” rule.

8—In-game trades are acceptable, but out-of-game trades, even to make pokemon such as Haunter or Graveler evolve, are not.

9—The Daycare Center cannot be used to breed, but it can be used to level up pokemon.

10—If all pokemon in my party faint, or if I am in a situation where I need to use a move like Cut or Surf to progress but have no pokemon that can use these moves and cannot obtain one without breaking the rules, I lose and my adventure ends.

Cianwood City

Before I take on Chuck, it’s time to Rock Smash and get my pokemon for the area. It’s a Krabby, lv. 20! “Rash nature, loves to eat.” I’ve named her Suzy.

For the challenge against Chuck, I’ve swapped out Carmen in favor of Aaron, who I raised to lv. 26 against the Tentacools/cruels in Route 41. Between him and Kenya, this Gym should be a snap!

Chuck doesn’t notice me thanks to his training. Humph. Time to do an arbitrary puzzle… Kenya one-shots the first trainer’s Hitmonlee, and the second guy’s Machop and Machoke fare little better against Aaron.

The third guy’s Hitmonchan puts up a fight, but Aaron still wipes him out. The final trainer has a fistful off monkeys (Mankey and Primeape) that still don’t put up a fight.

A quick trip to the center to heal up the damage from that Hitmonchan and it’s Gym Leader time!

BOSS: Chuck

He leads with Primeape, lv. 29, and I send out Kenya, lv. 28. It’s time for some Aerial Ace! Haha, and he even wastes a turn using Double Team. As though that’s going to help against Kenya! A second attack KOs him straight away.

Next up is Poliwrath, lv. 31. I’m sending out Aaron, lv. 27. Aaron gets off a Psybeam, but takes some serious damage and even gets paralyzed from Body Slam. Synchronize bounces the paralysis right back, though. Let’s switch back to Kenya. Despite getting a weighty hit from Surf on the switch-in, a critical hit Aerial Ace knocks Poliwrath out for the win. Huzzah! The Storm Badge and Focus Punch TM are mine!

Outside, Chuck’s wife automatically gives us HM02, because people were dumb when playing the original games and never found it, apparently. I teach it to Kenya. Let’s swap Carmen back in and Fly back to take care of Amphy.

Glitter Lighthouse

Handed over Cianwood’s suspicious superdrug to Jasmine. Are we sure this is for Amphy? Maybe we’ve just been doing Jasmine’s dirty work smuggling contraband. Whatever. We can go battle her now.

Olivine City

Warden Baoba calls to let us know that the Safari Zone is back in business. We’ll be heading over there in a second.

Jasmine’s trainers don’t battle us (we actually encountered them earlier in the Lighthouse ascent, as a fun little easter egg) so we jump right into another Leader battle:

BOSS: Jasmine

I remember having a lot of trouble against Jasmine when I was a kid, but hopefully this time will be different. She leads with Magnemite, lv. 30; I with Carmen, lv. 27. Carmen uses Dig before Magnemite has a chance to move and wipes it out without taking any damage.

She’s sending in another Magnemite, same level; let’s switch to Victoire, lv. 27, for variety’s sake. It uses Supersonic to confuse, but Victoire fights through it to one-shot with Magnitude.

Now, time for Jasmine’s ace: Steelix, lv. 35. This thing vastly outlevels any of my own pokemon, so we’ll have to hope for the best. Felix is Lv. 27, let’s send him out.

Felix deals half of her HP bar’s worth of damage with Surf, but she heals with a Sitrus Berry and uses Sandstorm.

Felix almost brings it down with another Surf, but Jasmine heals up. Still, without a Sitrus Berry to hold on to, Felix takes her down with two more Surfs.

The Iron Tail TM and Mine Badge are mine!

Two badges in one update—not bad! Next time we’ll see what Baoba was talking about, and possibly trek west of Ecruteak as well. Stay tuned!

Current Teammates: Felix (Croconaw), Carmen (Raticate), Franklin (Ampharos), Victoire (Graveler), Kenya (Fearow), Laika (Stantler)
