THE RULES:

1—All pokemon must be nicknamed.

2—I must attempt to catch the first pokemon I see in any route or area. I may catch no others in that area.

3—If a pokemon faints, it is considered “dead” and may no longer be used. I will release them from the next PC.

4—Legendaries cannot be caught or used.

5—The Pokewalker cannot be used.

6—If the first encounter is a duplicate of a pokemon I already have, I may ignore it and re-try for a new one. After three re-tries, however, I must catch the fourth one even if it is a dupe.

7—Gift pokemon, such as Bill’s Eevee or the Tyrogue from the Karate King, can be accepted and used and do not count under the “first encounter” rule. Forced encounters, such as Sudowoodo and the Red Gyarados, however, do count under the “first encounter” rule.

8—In-game trades are acceptable, but out-of-game trades, even to make pokemon such as Haunter or Graveler evolve, are not.

9—The Daycare Center cannot be used to breed, but it can be used to level up pokemon.

10—If all pokemon in my party faint, or if I am in a situation where I need to use a move like Cut or Surf to progress but have no pokemon that can use these moves and cannot obtain one without breaking the rules, I lose and my adventure ends.

Ecruteak City

Leon is dead.

I evolved him into an Espeon and was training him to be near the rest of my team in the route south of Ecruteak. A wild Stantler got a critical hit Stomp against him and wiped him out.

Leon’s personality was cute. He was shy but also playful and good-hearted. He was an incredible pokemon… I was honestly thinking of making him a permanent teammate.

I'm sorry, Leon.

We’ve fooled around enough. It’s time to progress. To the north of town is the Burned Tower.

Burned Tower

I immediately spy three interesting pokemon in the basement floor. Morty and Eusine are hanging nearby (I ship them.)

Eusine’s music is pretty great, but I need to figure out how to get down to the legendary pokemon. Let me pass, magician-man!

…whoops, someone else is here too.

BOSS: Silver

Silver sends out Gastly lv. 20; I send out Victoire lv. 20. I go ahead and switch out to Carmen, also lv. 20. And augh, Gastly places a Curse! Time to switch again! You know what? I’m gonna chance it. Go, Thomas!

Thomas, lv. 18, uses Confusion after some status shenanigans from Gastly and takes it down. Next up is Bayleef, lv. 22! I think it’s time to send in a Gastly of my own. Emilia is lv. 18; go, Emilia!

Hypnosis, Curse, and then a few Night Shades for victory. Next up is Franklin lv. 18 versus Zubat lv. 20. Thunder somehow misses FOUR TIMES IN A ROW but finally activates and, predictably, one-shots the bat.

Last up is Magnemite, lv. 18, versus Victoire. Silver pops in and says “sometimes in desperation, weak people do OK in fighting back.” Yes, Silver, but you’re not one of those weak people. You’re just a normal weak person. Magnitude ends Magnemite for victory.

Down the ladder, I approach the legendary dogs… but first, the wild pokemon of the area! It’s a Koffing. A female Koffing? How does that work? Anyway, I name her Corrine. “Quiet nature. Mischevious.”

I scare off the legendary pokemon and Eusine doesn’t get mad for some reason, even though this is apparently his life dream.

Morty should be back in his Gym, but I’m vastly outleveled; going there now would be slaughter. Time to level. I’ll poke around the Burned Tower. Ugh, more firebreathers! They use Koffing and fire-types… looks like a job for Thomas!

The first guy does some negligible damage, but Thomas sweeps him. He’s got 38 HP; still in the green! Puh-lease! Then the next sends out a Charmeleon. Pffft, really? You got one move before Surf hits you, baby! What can you possibly—

“Charmeleon used Dragon Rage.”

…no… No. NO! Thomas! ;.; He’s… he’s down… he’s dead! My Slowpoke! Thomas…

Carmen avenges Thomas without a problem, but he’s still gone. Why? I was doing so good, and then… all these deaths, all so recently. Hamilton, Leon, and even Thomas, one of my main pokemon…

I must be doing something wrong.

I still need to train for Morty… I’ll return when everyone’s sufficiently leveled.

Ecruteak City

(Joey)

(I will kill you if you keep calling)

Okay, I’m all leveled. Every member of my main and buffer teams are lv. 22. Kenya even evolved into a Fearow! By the by, have I told you guys anything about her personality yet? She’s stern and serious and puts her entire being into battle. Intense.

For my party, I’ve added Kenya and Aaron to the group and dropped Emilia, who would basically be useless here. Also picked up Mom’s gift of a Super Potion from the mart. Okay… let’s do this JOEY YOU JUST BARELY CALLED ME OKAY GIVE IT A BREAK

Medium Georgina has a whopping five Gastly on her team. Wowzers! But each one goes down to a single Thundershock from Franklin. They don’t even get the chance to move! Poor little ghosties… :’p

The next medium offers a “hint” that’s basically rendered useless in the remake’s new layout. Ugh, confusion. It’s supposed to be a 50% chance to hurt yourself, but in practice it cripples me completely as my pokemon attack themselves turn after turn. Still, when Felix’s Bite goes through, it one-shots that Haunter!

Kenya sweeps the next two trainers with ease. Now it’s time to go back, heal up, and hope for the best. It’s time to face down Ecruteak’s seer… Morty!

BOSS: Gym Leader Morty

I have to say, Morty’s new redesign is swank, with his scarf. Anyway, he sends out Gastly lv. 21, and I counter with Felix lv. 23. Gastly tried to trap me with Mean Look but it’s irrelevant as Felix one-shots it with Bite.

Crap, he’s sending out Gengar, lv. 25. This pokemon makes me nervous. Here’s hoping my strategy works… Franklin, lv. 23! Thunder Wave! Hahah! Enjoy that paralysis, sucker! Now, Thunder! Thunder takes away a fair chunk of HP, but he heals with a Sitrus Berry and puts me to sleep with Hypnosis. Hmm, to heal or to switch? Franklin hasn’t taken any damage… I’ll use a Chesto Berry.

Mwahaha! I healed up the sleep and he wasted a turn with Sucker Punch! One more Thunder should take him down… accuracy, don’t fail me now! Gah! It misses, and Gengar traps me with Mean Look. I’m worried about how much damage a Shadow Ball will do… c’mon, hit!

Success! Franklin’s Thunder hits and takes down Gengar. It never got a single chance to use that Shadow Ball! Next up is Haunter, lv. 21. Switching back to Felix. Haunter uses Curse, ensuring I’ll take it out with another Bite.

Next up is his final Haunter, lv. 23. I switch to Kenya, lv. 23. Her Normal type resists Ghost and she pwns him with Aerial Ace!

And with that, Morty is down and the Fog Badge and Shadow Ball TM are ours! However, we mustn’t get too excited. Though we succeeded against him, we still lost valued comrades in Thomas and Leon. Now that we have four badges, we’ll continue our journey next time. Goodbye, my friends...

Current Teammates: Felix (Croconaw), Carmen (Raticate), Franklin (Flaaffy), Victoire (Geodude), Kenya (Fearow), Aaron (Kadabra)

I'm genuinely upset with Leon's and Thomas' death, gosh~

--but somehow, you mentioning shipping made me temporarily go "oooooo Kuya and shipping, this is new"~
